What Is Hypermobility?
Hypermobility means having joints that move beyond the typical range of motion—often called “loose joints.” While this flexibility can sound like an advantage, it often leads to challenges like pain, joint instability, and even muscle weakness. Some may be able to move their limbs in ways others can’t, but this can cause the body to rely on poor movement patterns that increase wear and tear on joints, lower proprioception (body awareness), and cause muscular imbalances.
Over time, these imbalances make joints vulnerable to pain and injury. While we can’t “tighten” loose joints, we can strengthen the surrounding muscles to support them better.
